Keynote Speaker: Dr.Johann Georg Blauel, Fraunhofer Institute for Mechanics of Materials, Freiburg and Halle Germany
Description: The Fraunhofer Institute for Mechanics of Materials IWM in Freiburg and Halle, Germany, as one out of 60 Institutes of the Fraunhofer Gesellschaft, Muenchen, is introduced. Its core competences in materials, components and processes, experiments and numerical simulation and its experiences as an R and D partner to German industries are described. On this basis IWM has started to develop a strategic alliance for research, development and innovation (RDI) with Egyptian partners and actual examples of these activities in the fields Education and Training, Technology Transfer and Innovation as well as in joint Research are given. Especially, to support renewable energy generation in Egypt and the MENA countries topics for joint research and for the development of local content in the DESERTEC process are discussed.
About the Speaker:
Dr. Johann Georg Blauel, Born 24.05.1938 in Bonn, FRG I studied physics at the universities of Göttingen, Berlin and Freiburg and finished with a diploma in 1965. I received a doctor’s degree from Karlsruhe Technical University, Faculty of Chemical Engineering under Professors Rumpf and Kerkhof in 1970. Since 1971 he hasbeen head of the Department Material and Component Assessment of the Fraunhofer-Institut für Werkstoffmechanik (mechanics of materials) in Freiburg.
His main fields of technical interest are microstructures of materials and material properties, welding, mechanical behaviour of steel structures, and fracture mechanics of steels. He has published more than 180 papers in these fields. Since my formal retirement in 2003 my work as a technical consultant is concentrated on aluminium street- and rail-vehicles under service loading, especially crash.
